Star studded doesn’t even begin to describe the charitable event, “An Evening with Ralph Lauren” at Lincoln Center last night. The three part event that began with a champagne reception followed by a multimedia onstage performance and finished with a black-tie gala brought together an A-List group of models, celebrities, and fashion connoisseurs including Naomi Watts, Chanel Iman, Lily Aldridge, and Veronica Webb.
Dually benefiting the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer and Prevention and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts organization, the event included an onstage interview between Ralph Lauren and Oprah Winfrey. With Oprah back in the interviewer’s seat, the notoriously quiet Ralph Lauren reflected on everything from his career path to his philanthropic endeavors. “There were times when I had nothing to give. As a company, we are working very hard to do our job and do our share. […] We are conscious of philanthropy, and we are doing it for the right reasons, not for show,” the iconic American designer shared.
Following the interview, a re-run of Lauren’s Spring 2012 fashion show took place with a model line-up that easily surpasses any show we’ve seen at Fashion Week. Among the girls to walk the runway in the designer’s 1920s chic collection were Hilary Rhoda, Ruby Aldridge, Lily Donaldson, Constance Jablonski, Behati Prinsloo, and Magdalena Frackowiak.
A star speckled evening full of beautiful fashion is a surefire win to a dazzling evening, but it was the inspirational conversation between Winfrey and Lauren that had the entire audience heading home with a new found sense of determination and optimism about the future. “I admire people that have stayed the course,” Lauren said, “[people] who have stayed true to themselves.”
