While it’s a casting director’s job to find the perfect models for a designer’s show, sometimes the CD doesn’t have the last say in who will actually walk. Case in point: Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2010 show. By now everyone has seen the infamous “armadillo” shoes that were on display for the collection, and brave souls like Lady Gaga and Daphne Guinness have taken them out for a spin in the real world. But the question remains: How does one walk in them, if at all?
Models Abbey Lee Kershaw, Sasha Pivovarova, and Natasha Poly were noticeably absent from the show that had everyone talking. But why? According to Abbey Lee, the three girls were set to take the runway, but when they saw the footwear they’d be sashaying in they decided that they’d like to avoid spraining their ankles, thank you very much. Given everyone’s obsession with McQueen’s fabulous designs this season, we’re sure this probably wasn’t an easy decision to make.
Just goes to show you that modeling is no cakewalk. ~ Jessica Mahler
