Molten Drama at Chanel

Images via Style.com

Last year, Karl Lagerfeld shipped an ice glacier from The Ice Hotel in Sweden to Paris for the Fall 2010 runway show, bringing attention to the white meets wookie aspect of his Chanel designs for the season. But this year, he was feeling the lava love.

A wooden drawbridge accented with double C’s served as the method for his models of choice - Freja Beha ErichsenStella TennantAbbey Lee Kershaw - to enter the runway, which was surrounded by dry ice and smoke. Along the sides of the runway, volcanic lava oozed over black rocks, setting a dark and dramatic ambiance for the mostly black and grey collection. While the requisite tweed and well-tailored blazers were ever present, Karl’s models brought a boyish feeling to the Fall 2011 collection thanks to Doc Marten boots and loose-fitting styles.

While the set direction and collection undoubtedly drew major attention from editors and front row guests, it was Heidi Mount’s moment on the runway that was pleasing to us. Chanel marked her first appearance at Fashion Week this season, showing off her love for not only the brand, but Karl as well.
