Naomi Campbell, the Heroine

It’s no secret that Naomi Campbell donates major portions of her life to charity work. But now the supermodel is receiving some major attention from Sarah Brown, the British Prime Minister’s wife, for her efforts. The duo has recently been collaborating for the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood (WRA)—spending time at the Glastonbury musical festival, handpicking a Louis Vuitton handbag to raise funds. Sarah even granted Naomi the honor of world ambassador for WRA, and now she’s nominated the model as “21st-century heroine” in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar.

“The Naomi Campbell I know has proven herself a loyal friend and a woman of her word,” Sarah writes. “She is a fearless challenger of the established position if she sees the need for change, whether in her call for greater diversity in the media, or the demand for greater focus in international development on women’s health and rights. She is generous, authentic, and hardworking.”

She’s in major company, including Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Stella McCartney, and Zainab Salbi, the Iraqi-born founder of Women for Women International.
