Though the earthquake in Haiti shook the city a little over two months ago, it is always amazing and touching to hear about those who are still helping to raise money for the destroyed nation - especially when it is a major model and fave of Modelinia leading the fundraising! Last night, we joined model and ROSE Charities’ President Noot Seear along with several other art enthusiasts at Milk for “A Picture Saves A Thousand Lives,” a silent photo auction organized by FOTORELIEF and A Milk Gallery Project. The event featured donated photos from one hundred noted art and fashion photographers - including Patrick Demarchelier, Bruce Weber, Mario Testino, and Ben Watts - with the proceeds going to Rose Charity for the continuing relief efforts in Haiti.
“It was really natural how this came together and I feel like a lot of people want to give and want to help, but they don’t really know how,” Noot said. “John Gettings [Director of FOTORELIEF] is great and he really curated and helped the photographers choose which photos would be put to the show. I am blown away with what he did.”
And they are truly helping out in more ways than one. “We are sending a teams of pediatricians to do immediate care and we are also training the Haitian doctors and pediatricians already there,” Noot told us. “The School of Nursing got knocked over so we are reopening that and continuing to train the Haitians and creating jobs there and making a lasting project that will go on forever, we are not just coming in and leaving. I feel like we power the people that are already there and we make lasting projects!”
As the live DJ entertained the crowd, guests responded extremely well to the photos, as we even caught glimpse of a bidding war between two ladies! And it was easy to see why, as Noot explained, “All the photographers were more than happy to give and they gave their best work, not just what they had under their bed.”
So what’s the next charity event on Noot’s radar? “We are actually working on a show that I am going to do with Milk in LA called BeBare, which are these funny underwear fashion shows!” Curious? Take a peak at a previous BeBare show Noot did in our video with her! ~ Kristin White
