Fashion industry insider Camilla Morton jumped right into the throes of New York Fashion Week and will be guest-blogging for Modelinia all week long.
Yesterday I was struck by how much fashion has centered around one name that, after this season, will be hanging up her stilettos for the last time. As I wandered around Bryant Park yesterday, I remembered Gisele Bündchen opening shows, Naomi Campbell, and some of the cities’ fashion high points. The Spring 2010 collections mark the last showing at Bryant Park, and she still looks flawless in this her final season. From Michael Kors with Carmen Kass, Lily Donaldson, and Natasha Poly in that cutaway swimsuit to seeing red (Anastasia Kuznetsova’s all-in-one miraculous machine-wash tux at Phillip Lim), Bryant Park has had more makeovers and face-lifts than any supermodel would ever admit. The venue has sold the dream, just as it did yesterday at Alexandre Herchcovitch; see Lily, Natasha, and newly blonder Jessica Stam at an exuberant Anna Sui. Here was a venue that even made Addison Gill and Imogen Morris Clarke’s blue lips look the right shade of chic at Doo.Ri. I would have almost shed a tear for my old friend and confidante Bryant Park if she hadn’t beckoned to me from the Alice + Olivia store, with its new jewelry line, Lia Sophia, that had editors queuing up to buy the rock-chic bling.
The Proenza Schouler boys rock New York’s new style. From slouchy chic to skintight, this was the off-duty model gear for the A-list, as displayed by Suvi Koponen or Hanne Gaby Odiele in their shades. At first I thought Anastasija Kondratjeva’s lilac hair was a trick of the light bouncing against her white shirt, but then came red Rianne Ten Haken and green-haired Valeria Dmitrienko… It somehow worked for them, but the fused-up easy undone do versus the sharp cuts of Daiane Conterato, Irina Kulikova, and Mathilde Frachon kept the focus on the clothes—until Natasha, Sasha, Ginta Lapina and Carmen strode on. I always knew blondes had the most fun… The only punch-ups: which girls got to keep which looks. ~ Camilla Morton
