Fashion industry insider Camilla Morton jumped right into the throes of New York Fashion Week and will be guest-blogging for Modelinia all week long.

When traveling to a new city, it’s important as a tourist to see the undiscovered as well as the main attractions. If you came to London on the fashion beat, I would be offended if you didn’t see the new designers as well as our national treasures, so the same applies here.

Once I realized there was no figuring out the weather (so glad I brought seven jumpers and towering Burberry boots when the city is washed with hot sunshine), I decided to go native.

After checking which invites had arrived, wailing at PRs for those that hadn’t, and phoning home to check on the cat, I went to see Nonoo Lyons’ pop-up store for the Spring presentation in Soho. Last season it was literary heroines, and this season it’s pinups. Miss January wore electric blue, Miss July lilac, Miss December donned a black jacket with a scalloped neckline, and Miss September wore a simple white military-inspired jacket with an off-centered diagonal button closure. In short, a series of ingenious cuts that could lift each month and look of your wardrobe (though doing a leopard-print Mac with cheeky pouf sleeves and waterfall gathered hem for Miss August, I wonder what they are saying about the English summer?), you simply have to work out which pinup is most you. ~ Camilla Morton
