Model Style Report: 3 Ways to Wear Florals Like a Model This Spring

As Miranda Priestly once said, there is nothing groundbreaking about florals for spring. Now, no offense to Ms. Priestly, but she clearly hasn’t been paying much attention to this season’s best-dressed models.  From delicate cherry blossoms to colorful hibiscus, feminine florals have quickly blossomed into a seasonal essential for the likes of Miranda Kerr, Gisele Bündchen and Alessandra Ambrosio, inspiring new ways to flourish this spring.

Always the perfect mix of modern femininity and timeless beauty, Miranda Kerr proved that spring is well on its way— even if the temperatures suggest otherwise this week— when she stepped out in the above Dolce & Gabbana floral dress paired with Christian Louboutin pumps, a classic Hermes Birkin bag and a very chic fall 2014 Escada overcoat in New York on Wednesday. The effortless styling refreshed her cold-weather topper (because seriously, how sick of our winter clothes are you right now?) and still kept the look completely spring-appropriate. Gisele took a more casual approach to the trend earlier this month when she attended her daughter Vivian’s christening in a pair of cropped, floral print pants offset by a white tuxedo blazer and red  high-heeled sandals.

Meanwhile, Alessandra embraced her inner boho at the launch of Christian Louboutin’s Passage handbag collection at the Chateau Marmont hotel on Tuesday.  The Victoria’s Secret Angel, who looked stunning enough as it was in a plunging white Sally LaPointe romper and Louboutin pumps, topped off her stunning spring look with a bright, floral headpiece. Though a bit much for your weekly Sunday brunch date, a floral crown is sure to fit right in at Coachella next month, where of course, you’re likely to see Alessandra in all of her floral glory!

Style Sighting: Lily Aldridge Shows the Kings of Leon Some Love

In today’s supermodel style sighting, we turn our gaze upon the forever stunning, Lily Aldridge.  The Victoria’s Secret Angel made a stylish entrance at LAX Airport on Tuesday, sporting a pair of Étoile Isabel Marant printed boyfriend jeans and tan ankle booties with a grey top referencing her husband Caleb Followill’s band, Kings of Leon. The “Aha Shake” crewneck sweatshirt paid tribute to the band’s popular second album of the same name, making the look as sweet as it was casually chic!

When she’s not wearing one of her hubby’s rock tees these days, chances are you’ll find Lily in a piece from her newly launched second collection for Velvet by Graham & Spencer.  Inspired by her love of NYC street style, her California roots and her adopted hometown of Nashville, the supermodel set out to create a range of live-in tees, jersey-knit dresses and jackets that make dressing like one of our favorite bombshells easier than ever!.  And as always, you’ll find a personal touch with each of the collection’s pieces, as they’ve all been named after someone she loves (our favorite is the Behati crop top, named after one of our other favorite VS Angels, Behati Prinsloo).

The Lily Aldridge for Velvet collection retails for $60 to $190 and is available now at velvet-tees.com.  Get shopping!

On the Dot: The Retro Trend Gets a Modern Update for Spring ’14

In case you haven’t noticed, this season has seen the revival of just about every ’90s wardrobe staple known to man— crop tops and overalls included.  And, while polka-dots never technically left the scene, the playful pattern has returned to the spotlight once again, and this time it’s taking over everything from our summer dresses to our handbags and iPhone apps!

For Spring 2014, the plucky little pattern could be found in a vast range of sizes and colors.  At Burberry, the look was bold, like something out of a Liechtenstein painting, and offset with feminine lace, while Dolce & Gabbana kept things classic with flouncy printed day dresses.  On the streets, Poppy Delevingne married the girlish print with an oversized menswear coat and bright, colorful sandals, giving hope to those who are still weary of the print’s overt feminine charm.

As for accessories, nothing beats the dizzying array of decorative dots on our editor’s spotted picks above: the perforated Stella McCartney envelope clutch, Katie Grand Loves Hogan ladylike slingbacks and Le Specs (a brand favored by the Delevingne sisters) round-frame shades.  Though, if you ask us, the greatest thing about this season’s dot obsession is that it’s allowing us to not only wear our dots, but play with them too!  One of our favorite mobile games, the aesthetically chic Dots, is releasing a new challenger mode through Facebook this week, marking the perfect merger between fashion and technology.  When the Modelinia staff isn’t obsessing over the latest in supermodel activities, we’re playing this game and we can’t wait to see who gets the office high score. Game on!

Lydia Hearst Scores a Terrifying New Role

While we love seeing Lydia Hearst battling it out on The Face every Wednesday night, we can’t help but to be all smiles at the thought of the supermodel coach gearing up for her next major film role in the upcoming movie, Condemned!

According to E! News, the model-turned-actress will star in the upcoming horror film, which takes place in “an abandoned building in New York City’s Lower East Side that houses squatters infected with a mystery disease that turns them into crazed killers.”  Lydia is said to be playing the role of ‘a degenerate junkie’ who makes it her mission to keep a group of ‘young rocker kids’ from escaping the building.  The all-American model joins fellow model/actress Dylan Penn (the daughter of Sean Penn and Robin Wright), who will star as the youngest kid caught in Lydia’s crossfire.

“The building residents succumb to an infection from their own waste and garbage, inciting a ‘battle royale’ where they all go berserk and try to kill one another,” says a press release from the film’s producers.

Production on the film is scheduled to start next month in New York, which means we still have a ways to go before catching Lydia on the big screen.  Good thing we always have The Face to look forward too!
