The Models’s Off-Duty Must-Haves Decoded

Of course, models look amazing on the runway, but it’s their off-duty street styles that we really love to see.  As their very livelihoods require them to eat, sleep and breath fashion, it comes as little surprise that the innately stylish ‘model off-duty’ look has become an oft-imitated style category.  Though each model likes to put her own unique spin on the style genre, there are at least a few seasonal must-haves that it seems even the most in-demand street style stars can not live without.  From the perennial favorite leather leggings to this season’s trendiest new accessory, we’ve decoded five of the models’s must-have off-duty pieces, which we’re regarding as blueprints for achieving our own MOD look this fall.  Do you dare exercise a little model behavior too? Cara Delevingne Remains the Most Talked About Model on Social Media

Social media is an essential part of the business of fashion week not only for designers, but for models as well.  Anyone with an Instagram account and Wi-Fi connection can attest the Spring 2015 shows were all about bringing the live runway experience to an iPhone screen near you— from the backstage chaos to the more groundbreaking live runway videos.  And while every model contributed her fair share of candid snaps this past show season, it appears there was one catwalker in particular, who ruled supreme: Cara Delevingne.

As reported by WWD, according to a new study by London-based retail tech firm Editd, the British supermodel was the most talked-about model on blogs and Twitter channels during the most recent Paris Fashion Week — a feat that was no doubt fueled by news regarding her signature thick, dark eyebrows.  Followers will remember waking up to a global gasp that resounded throughout the webosphere after the model/actress bleached her bold brows for Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy show.  The headlines ranged from the suggestive, “Cara Delevingne Got Rid of Her Famous Brows for Givenchy,” to the more extreme, “Cara Delevingne Bleached Her Eyebrows and the World No Longer Makes Sense” (BuzzFeed).  Of course, that’s not to say that holding hands with Kate Moss in the front row at Burberry’ or leading the charge in Karl Lagerfeld’s mock feminist protest didn’t help her capture 24 percent of the cyberspace buzz— Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (22 percent) and Karlie Kloss (14 percent) rounded out the second and third spots.

But what makes Cara so special?

“She’s real, and people can relate to her,” said Wendy Rowe, makeup artist and creative consultant for Burberry, the label for which Delevingne is a face. “She doesn’t make things unachievable.”

In addition to earning high-profile campaigns with ChanelDKNY, Mulberry and Topshop among others, Cara increased her profile with the cover of Vogue magazine’s all-important September issue, a beauty campaign co-starring Kate Moss and most recently, a third BFA Model of the Year nomination.  As for her growing list of IMDB credits, the model/actress proved that she’s more than just a pretty face, earning starring roles in “Paper Towns” “London Fields” and most recently, the upcoming Amanda Knox biopic, “Face of an Angel,” all the while keeping us entertained one goofy face at a time.

Stop What You’re Doing – The 2015 Fetish-Themed Pirelli Calendar is Here (NSFW)

The sexy fashion reveal we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! On Monday night in Milan, the 2015 edition of the perennially beautiful Pirelli Calendar was unveiled, and the pin-up-themed edition shot by the legendary Steven Meisel is about as noteworthy as it gets .

With styling by Carine Roitfeld, makeup by Pat McGrath and an impossibly gorgeous cast — the models featured (in order of appearance) are Adriana Lima, Natalia Vodianova, Joan Smalls, Candice Huffine, Carolyn Murphy, Anna Ewers, Cameron Russell, Sasha Luss, Karen Elson, Isabeli FontanaGigi Hadid and Raquel Zimmermann — each month of the calendar is celebrated with a poster-like image of a single girl, all of whom were shot in New York this past May.

While past editions of the infamously cheeky publication have featured little to no clothing at all, each woman in this year’s shoot was styled according to Meisel’s vision of  ”key aesthetics” in fashion today and “the stereotypes that the fashion and star system impose upon us.”  Read the rest of this entry »

Karlie Kloss Is Whipping Up a New Kookie Recipe Benefitting Young Designers

With the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show just 2 weeks away, it’s safe to assume that the models are saving their sweet treats for the post-runway celebration. That is, everyone except Karlie Kloss.  After founding her famous dairy-free, gluten-free, agave-sweetened Karlie’s Kookies for Momofuku Milk Bar in 2012, the supermodel/cookie aficionado appears to be tying on her apron once again, this time to launch her new “Coco Kookie” in partnership with the CFDA.  Read the rest of this entry »

Suki Waterhouse’s Sister Immy Signs to Her Modeling Agency

Suki Waterhouse may be turning her attention to acting as of late, but it appears the same can’t be said for her younger sister, Immy.  The 20-year-old English beauty has just been signed to Next Model Management—the same agency as Suki— and it appears that she’s already learning from her big sister’s A-list model experience.

“Suki has shown me that hard work pays off and rejection is a big part of it,” Immy told British Vogue, upon the announcement. “Like Suki, I’m not typical height-wise for a model, so she advised me to just forget about those stereotypes.”

Still, while the two may share a last name and now an agency, they each bring something very different when in front of the camera. Fan’s of Suki’s red carpet style will note her penchant for the ‘Swinging Sixties,’often dressing in shades of pastels or bohemian-inspired  silhouettes.  Meanwhile, Immy’s long golden hair and piercing blue eyes exudes more of a California beach babe style.  Read the rest of this entry »
