Here at Modelinia, we spend a lot of time on Twitter, so naturally, we’ve developed a short list of top model tweeters. Here, we pay tribute to the five social media savvy models who always keep us coming back for more! ~ Modelinia
For those of you who don’t know, the Brit Awards are a essentially the UK’s answer to the United States’ Grammy Awards. And like the Grammy Awards, the models are never too far from sight— a fact that held especially true in London tonight.
While we were already thoroughly entertained by a sequin-clad Beyonce, Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” performance and that forever lovable Harry Styles, we nearly fell out of our chair when Kate Moss took to the stage. Mossy singing live? No not quite— but the supermodel was there to accept an award from Noel Gallagher on behalf of her dear friend David Bowie. As his “representative on earth” Kate walked to the stage looking as cool as ever wearing Bowie’s original Ziggy Stardust costume – first worn by the icon at his 1972 Rainbow Concert. If that weren’t enough, the 40-year-old stunner then went on to read a message from the ‘Thin White Duke’ himself, ending the speech by saying “Scotland stay with us.”
As you might recall, this isn’t the first time Kate has paid tribute to the legendary singer. In 2003, the supermodel emulated Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album for the cover of Vogue UK’s May issue, posing in his iconic red and blue lightning bolt makeup and his Seventies mullet hair ‘do. Again in 2012, Kate dressed as Bowie’s alter ego Ziggy Stardust, this time gracing the December/January cover of Vogue Paris.
We’d like to congratulate Mr. Bowie on his big win tonight, but more importantly, we’d like to thank him for giving us a Moss moment to remember!
Chrissy Teigen has been caught in a whirlwind of events and parties since the announcement of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s 2014 cover, which is why we’re wondering how she’s holding up everything (and everyone). In case you’ve been living under a rock (without access to the internet or social media), the model meme went viral when Teigen discovered a photoshopped image of herself holding onto the nipples of a male swimmer on the side of a bus. She found it hilarious and quickly solicited the twittersphere asking anyone who was bored with basic photoshop skills to make her laugh with their own creations. And so began #chrissyholdingthings. From John Legend’s microphone to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Chrissy is holding up things all over the place. You can check out Chrissy’s twitter to see the full collection, but in the “memetime”, here are some of her highlights that we hope will inspire some future original works.
Just hours after turning heads on the red carpet at the SI Swimsuit Beach House party in New York on Tuesday night, supermodel Anne V was back in her bikini in Miami this afternoon, showing off her perfectly toned body on the beach just outside the Fontainebleau Hotel.
To be honest, if we didn’t know any better, we would have guessed we were looking at a photo of Anne’s latest SI spread. Modeling a racy cut-out black bikini, oversized sunglasses and a simple top knot— not to mention one incredibly taut tummy— the Russian stunner looked ready for her close up as she enjoyed a little fun in the sun ahead of tonight’s main event. As previously noted, the Swimsuit veteran is set to rejoin the rest of her SI family at the Fontainebleau Hotel later tonight for the second stop on their #SISwim50 party tour.
Award season doesn’t pertain to Los Angeles alone. Following Sunday night’s glamourous BAFTA Awards, the British A-list returned to old London town once again on Tuesday night, this time to honor the fashion elite at the 2014 Elle Style Awards.
Coming in on the heels of London Fashion Week, the annual red carpet affair drew a number of beautiful British catwalkers, including Cara Delevingne— presenting the award for International Recording Artist of the Year to Pharrell Williams— Jourdan Dunn and the model on everyone’s lips that evening, Suki Waterhouse. The model/actress was the proud recipient of the hotly-contested Model of the Year award, which was presented to her by none other than Arizona Muse. Suki has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the fashion ranks over the course of the past year, fronting campaigns for Burberry and Sass & Bide, as well as earning significant gains in her acting career.
Still, that wasn’t the only thing Suki was celebrating last night. Along with the coveted award, the blonde beauty was also toasting to her one-year anniversary with American Hustle actor Bradley Cooper, who she famously met at last year’s Elle Style Awards.
Of course, the British trio weren’t the only ones turning heads on the red carpet. Supermodel Karolina Kurkova was also on hand last night to present the Fashion Innovator award to Diesel’s Nicola Formichetti, while Barbara Palvin, Chloe Noorgaard, Poppy Delevingne, Daisy Lowe and a pregnant Erin O’Connor joined their fellow celebs in the audience.
Following the event, Suki and her man were seen getting into a taxi on their way to an exclusive after party, while Cara was busy meeting up with her partner in crime, Michelle Rodriguez, to continue the fun at popular central London bar, Firehouse.
Befitting of a true SI Swim party, there was plenty of bronzed flesh on display as the industry’s hottest exports paraded their enviable bikini bodies down the black carpet. Swimsuit veterans Anne V, Irina Shayk and up-and-comer Hannah Davis played peek-a-boo with their revealing black floor-length gowns, while Emily DiDonato, Kate Bock and Sara Sampaio kept things short and sweet in their leg-barring mini dresses. While chatting with the SI rookie about where she was when she received the good news, Sara admitted she was surprisingly in very good company at the time.
“I was actually with Emily DiDonato when my agent called me with the news,” Sara told us. ”We had just come out of a yoga class together when my agent called and said ‘you got it,’ so she ended up being the first person I told.”
“Everything about my shoot was great,” exclaimed Gigi. ”I got to skateboard, I got to paddle out on the surfboard— it was amazing!” The 19-year-old model went on to share her bikini-ready fitness routine with us, explaining that she prepared for the shoot with the help of her personal trainer David Kirsch— also the go-to health and fitness guru to three-time cover girl Kate Upton— who she worked with every day, if not every other day on a series of strength-training moves. Looks like hard work pays off!
Meanwhile, a flurry of bright flashes at the opposite end of the carpet signaled the arrival of the night’s honored guests: cover girls Nina, Lily and Chrissy. Upon being greeted by Swimsuit editor MJ Day, the smiling models posed for pictures with their new cover shots before being quickly whisked away to kick off the night’s festivities. Although fresh off the TV press circuit, which included guest appearances on both ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and ‘The Today Show’ earlier that morning, the supermodel trio looked fresh faced and ready to party! Good thing too, because the beach house party was only the beginning of a long week of SI celebrations. The next stop for the bikini-clad beauties? Miami baby! There the Swimsuit stunners will all attend both public and private events to help promote the new issue. Stay tuned for even more SI Swim party coverage to come later this week!
