It Was All About Slick Hair and Bold Lips at the 2015 Oscars

Much like the red carpet gowns, the beauty looks at last night’s 87th annual Academy Awards were largely safe.  We’re talking nude lipstick, perfectly dewy skin and enough glossy curls to go around.  Still, there were at least a few standouts in the A-list crowd — our favorites of which came courtesy of models Chrissy Teigen , Behati Prinsloo, Karolina Kurkova, Suki Waterhouse and Miranda Kerr.  While each of their looks were noticeably different from the others, they did all touch upon two key red carpet trends: slick hair and bold lips done in a variety of styles and shades. Here, we’ve broken down the models’ show-stopping looks to demonstrate their take on award season’s most-talked about new hair and makeup trends.  Which one will you attempt?

If you felt that the dresses at the 87th annual Academy Awards ceremony were on the whole elegant and safe, then we’d advise you to stop what you’re doing and check out these photos from the after parties where things got significantly more exciting— sartorially speaking, that is. From Gigi Hadid‘s super leggy Atelier Versace numbers (that’s right— she had more than one) to Miranda Kerr‘s intricately cut Emilio Pucci gown to Irina Shayk‘s near-naked pant/dress hybrid, the models’ post-show party looks proved far more interesting (and far more NSFW!) than their red carpet counterparts.  So chances are, if your co-workers are raving about so-and-so’s look from last night, their referring to the one of the barely-there looks featured here in our Oscar parties roundup.  Scroll through to get the scoop on who wore what where below!

Runway to Red Carpet: Fashion at the 2015 Academy Awards

On Sunday night, Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars gathered at the Dolby Theatre for the 87th annual Academy Awards, and this year, it was all about the glitz and glam— for actresses and models alike!

Though outnumbered by the gaggle of sparkly screen sirens and dapper men in attendance, there was still plenty of model-watching to be had on the red carpet.  Among the first to arrive was powerhouse couple Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, who was nominated (with rapper Common) and later won for Best Original Song for his single “Glory” in the new Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, Selma. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover girl was a model wife stepping out in an embellished  Zuhair Murad Spring 2015 Couture gown featuring a thigh-grazing slit that gave Angelina Jolie’s famous Oscar look a run for its money.  The duo have been racking up the honors all award season, including at last month’s Golden Globes, where they made headlines for more than just their win. Chrissy was so emotional after her husband’s name was announced that she immediately broke out into tears— the meme of which went viral within seconds.  This time around, Chrissy was a bit more protective of her cry face. ”She tried not to do it on camera so you all didn’t get it like you did last time,” explained John following the show.

Modelinia AM Reads: Jessica Stam Reveals Her Fashion Week Beauty Essentials

And that’s a wrap! Awards season officially came to an end with the handing out of the 87th annual Academy Awards on Sunday night.  As many predicted, Julianne Moore, Eddie Redmayne, J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette all took home tiny gold men, as did Birdman for “Best Picture.”  Head here to see the full list of this year’s Oscars winners. ~ The Hollywood Reporter

While the Oscar winners may not have come as a total surprise, there was indeed a handful of moments that got the audience (that means you, Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey) out of their seats and at the same time, sent our proverbial jaws plummeting.  From Patricia Arquette’s powerful acceptance speech, to John Legend and Common’s tear-jerking performance (which you can watch in full here) these were the five most talked-about moments at the 2015 Oscars. Which was your favorite? ~ E! Online

Anna Wintour wears her sunglasses front row at every fashion show from NY to Paris, so it should come as no surprise that the Vogue EIC refused to take them off for the Academy Awards.  Joined by her daughter Bee Shaffer (wearing Dolce & Gabbana) the editrix wore a pale pink gown, a fur shrug and her signature shades, which stayed on for the entirety of the show. Seriously, what are you hiding under there Mrs. Wintour? ~ Yahoo Style

In other news, Kendall Jenner now has a shiny new accolade to add to her burgeoning fashion resume.  According to a new Instagram report, the model-of-the-moment had the most-liked photo on the social media app this New York Fashion Week with some 943,000 likes (and counting) in less than a week.  Meanwhile, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger ranked the highest in shows with the most engaged Instagram users.  ~ The Cut

Did you catch this major model moment?  On Sunday, supermodel Sophie Dahl returned to the runway at Temperley London for the first time in over ten years!  The model led the finale in a bronze trousers and an oversized black coat, and was cheered on by her husband Jamie Cullen who sat on the front row. Does this meant that Dahl is back in officially back in the game?  We sure hope so! ~ Grazia UK

Last night during the Academy Awards, viewers were treated subjected to a performance of the Oscar-nominated song “Everything Is Awesome” from the Lego movie. And it was er, interesting to say the least.  But this morning, Jourdan Dunn posted an Instagram to make everything okay. The model put up a video of her five-year-old son, Riley, singing “Everything Is Awesome” for Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne, and Taylor Swift, and it is in fact, the cutest. ~ Elle

Before she jet off to London Fashion Week, runway-favorite Jessica Stam sat down with Modelinia to talk all things fashion and beauty.  Here, we reveal our exclusive interview with the supermodel in which, she lets us in on her online obsessions, dream selfie partner and the beauty products she can’t travel without.  Get the scoop here! ~ Modelinia

Karlie Kloss is Headed to College!

Is there anything that Karlie Kloss can’t do?  On top of becoming one fashion’s most in-demand models — she currently holds contracts with Victoria’s Secret and L’Oreal Paris among others— the 22-year-old is also the founder of the charitable cookie line Karlie’s Kookies, the designer behind best-selling collaborations with Frame Denim and Warby Parker and come September, a new student at the prestigious New York University.

That’s right— Karlie is headed to college!  Speaking in the new issue of Vogue, the supermodel reveals that she was recently accepted into NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study — “a small college within New York University, that gives students the opportunity to design a program of study that is tailored to their own goals and interests.” Karlie even got NYU alum (and her own personal hero) Christy Turlington to write a letter of recommendation for her, which if you ask us, is an honor in and of itself.

Of course, this is hardly the model’s first college experience.  Last May, Karlie attended Harvard University where she successfully completed a summer class called “The Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports.”  In recent months, she’s also taken part in several computer courses, where she’s been learning to code — a hobby that she believe could be her most beneficial talent in the future.

“Coding is fascinating,” she explained. “Everything around us, the world we live in today, and the future is written in code. I’m incredibly ambitious and have lots of goals within my career that I’m not slowing down on anytime soon.”

We would expect nothing less from this supermodel-scholar.
