Modelinia AM Reads: Jessica Stam Reveals Her Fashion Week Beauty Essentials

And that’s a wrap! Awards season officially came to an end with the handing out of the 87th annual Academy Awards on Sunday night.  As many predicted, Julianne Moore, Eddie Redmayne, J.K. Simmons and Patricia Arquette all took home tiny gold men, as did Birdman for “Best Picture.”  Head here to see the full list of this year’s Oscars winners. ~ The Hollywood Reporter

While the Oscar winners may not have come as a total surprise, there was indeed a handful of moments that got the audience (that means you, Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey) out of their seats and at the same time, sent our proverbial jaws plummeting.  From Patricia Arquette’s powerful acceptance speech, to John Legend and Common’s tear-jerking performance (which you can watch in full here) these were the five most talked-about moments at the 2015 Oscars. Which was your favorite? ~ E! Online

Anna Wintour wears her sunglasses front row at every fashion show from NY to Paris, so it should come as no surprise that the Vogue EIC refused to take them off for the Academy Awards.  Joined by her daughter Bee Shaffer (wearing Dolce & Gabbana) the editrix wore a pale pink gown, a fur shrug and her signature shades, which stayed on for the entirety of the show. Seriously, what are you hiding under there Mrs. Wintour? ~ Yahoo Style

In other news, Kendall Jenner now has a shiny new accolade to add to her burgeoning fashion resume.  According to a new Instagram report, the model-of-the-moment had the most-liked photo on the social media app this New York Fashion Week with some 943,000 likes (and counting) in less than a week.  Meanwhile, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger ranked the highest in shows with the most engaged Instagram users.  ~ The Cut

Did you catch this major model moment?  On Sunday, supermodel Sophie Dahl returned to the runway at Temperley London for the first time in over ten years!  The model led the finale in a bronze trousers and an oversized black coat, and was cheered on by her husband Jamie Cullen who sat on the front row. Does this meant that Dahl is back in officially back in the game?  We sure hope so! ~ Grazia UK

Last night during the Academy Awards, viewers were treated subjected to a performance of the Oscar-nominated song “Everything Is Awesome” from the Lego movie. And it was er, interesting to say the least.  But this morning, Jourdan Dunn posted an Instagram to make everything okay. The model put up a video of her five-year-old son, Riley, singing “Everything Is Awesome” for Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne, and Taylor Swift, and it is in fact, the cutest. ~ Elle

Karlie Kloss is Headed to College!

Is there anything that Karlie Kloss can’t do?  On top of becoming one fashion’s most in-demand models — she currently holds contracts with Victoria’s Secret and L’Oreal Paris among others— the 22-year-old is also the founder of the charitable cookie line Karlie’s Kookies, the designer behind best-selling collaborations with Frame Denim and Warby Parker and come September, a new student at the prestigious New York University.

That’s right— Karlie is headed to college!  Speaking in the new issue of Vogue, the supermodel reveals that she was recently accepted into NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study — “a small college within New York University, that gives students the opportunity to design a program of study that is tailored to their own goals and interests.” Karlie even got NYU alum (and her own personal hero) Christy Turlington to write a letter of recommendation for her, which if you ask us, is an honor in and of itself.

Of course, this is hardly the model’s first college experience.  Last May, Karlie attended Harvard University where she successfully completed a summer class called “The Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports.”  In recent months, she’s also taken part in several computer courses, where she’s been learning to code — a hobby that she believe could be her most beneficial talent in the future.

“Coding is fascinating,” she explained. “Everything around us, the world we live in today, and the future is written in code. I’m incredibly ambitious and have lots of goals within my career that I’m not slowing down on anytime soon.”

We would expect nothing less from this supermodel-scholar.

Fashion’s lack of diversity is not news to anyone these days—the issue has been addressed countless times to little effect.  But, thanks to a recent article in The New York Times, the sad reality is being put blast once again, this time with actual statistics to back it up.  Among the more alarming facts is that of the 260 designers who will show at New York Fashion Week, there are only three “with any global reach” who are African-American: Tracy Reese, Public School and Hood by Air.  Needless to say, we need change, and fast! ~ New York Times

Naomi Campbell showed her friends and fans how a supermodel walks the runway as she presented her latest Fashion For Relief fashion show in London on Thursday night.  The British icon – who organized the show to raise awareness and money to fight the spread of Ebola - was joined by fellow model Jourdan Dunn as well as television personalities, singers, actresses and just a few surprises. Fur was everywhere at Ralph Lauren’s fall 2015 show Thursday, accompanying everything from outerwear to evening gowns. But as it turns out, it wasn’t fur at all. According to the collection’s show notes, all of the fur-like pieces featured in the collection were actually constructed of shearling. Commendable, not to mention impressive from a design perspective (we were certainly fooled!). ~ Fashionista
