And now, a note from our Fashion Correspondent at London Fashion Week, Camilla Morton:
The morning after the night of hats, I woke up with the cat licking my cheek before going back to chewing the ribbon on my Stephen Jones creation.
It was Pancake Day, Shrove Tuesday, and however much I wanted to see hot ticket Mark Fast and Mary Katrantzou I couldn’t get out of bed. I was going to have to rely on style.com.
Returning with my eggs, milk, and morning paper, I spotted a beautiful couture creation in the window of my local charity store. A once worn wedding dress now passed on and waiting for the next adventure. I wondered how many of the runway creations would make it to museums, and how many would fall to neglect. I vowed I wouldn’t be giving up anything for Lent (it is hopeless to pretend I could live without chocolate during the show season). Instead I was going to dig one forgotten favourites out of my wardrobe for the next forty days. This is not only going to save me money, it is going to give my dusty darlings a chance to party again.
Once the coffees had started to kick in, I met my friend from Galliano and took her to the essential site of London: Topshop. She is pregnant so we first went to their maternity section and after being THAT sensible, I wanted some frivolity, so we went into the main store. As we are currently conflicting sizes, we stuck with accessories, and appropriately hats. Ever savvy in here, you could get a Carla, a Dita, a veil, and indeed all sorts of affordable versions of a Stephen Jones creation on the Chapeau Claudette stand. I took a sneaky picture for you to see. Not only do you need to get to this exhibition you have to get a hat! Hats are not just for weddings or the runway. They are essential for your morale this season!
