Fashion Week never pauses, and over the weekend, models converged on the runway to showcase the newest creations from designers including Givenchy, John Galliano, Sonia Rykiel, and Viktor & Rolf.
We have to give Riccardo Tisci credit, as he began the collection with a selection of fresh faces including opener Yuliana Dementyeva, who held an exclusive with the brand, then leading into the expected Paris fashion faces such as Natasha Poly, Lara Stone, and Malgosia Bela. He even spoke to the need for diversity on the runway, and hired Lyndsey Scott, Rose Cordero, Lakshmi Menon, Joan Smalls, Ming Xi, Chanel Iman, Shu Pei Qin, and Liu Wen.
In the fantastical world of John Galliano, the Dior designer kept with his model love and requested that Karlie Kloss open the show, though honestly, if it were not for her power walk, she was almost unrecognizable. The runway continued with an onslaught of major models including Maryna Linchuk, Jessica Stam, Sigrid Agren, Coco Rocha, and Heidi Mount but the mix of masterful makeup and hats could almost stump the most talented model spotters.
We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again. Sonia Rykiel’s runways are by far a highlight of the season, because models are actually allowed to smile and show off the brilliant personalities on the runway. J’adore Hanne Gaby Odiele’s toothy grin and Tao Okamoto’s sly smile.
Forget the backstage. Viktor & Rolf decided to give fashion editors a full view of the show - and we mean the entire show. Instead of showing off complete looks, the designers dressed models midway through their runway walk. Kristen McMenamy opened the show, wearing 10 layers, which were then removed by the designers one-by-one to place on each new girl. Then, halfway through, the process changed and the designers redressed Kristen. Interesting and versatile, while entertaining and fashion forward, but without a doubt a throwback to their collection with Maggie Rizer!
