Proenza Schouler's Revolutionary Collection

There have been some groundbreaking collections this season — Marc Jacobs’ mad hatter clad runway, Prabal Gurung’s lace and sheer gowns, Jason Wu’s Mao-inspired jackets — but nothing has been as revolutionary as Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s collection last night. There’s a reason why this duo has their show at the very end of Fashion Week, and it’s not just because they’re saving the best for last. Proenza Schouler solidifies trends, sets the standard for the upcoming weeks of fashion in London, Milan, and Paris, and ultimately leaves New York Fashion Week on the highest note possible; pure genius.

Last night they derived their inspiration from the East, sending out oversized sculpted jackets reminiscent of restructured kimonos, crisp shifty dresses, and an unexpected color palette of whites, burnt oranges, and bright seafoam greens that were splattered about their Asian inspired prints. Unlike the other top collections like Alexander Wang and Jason Wu who had major supermodels walking their runways, Proenza Schouler stuck with their favorites: Sigrid Agren, Liu Wen, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Joan Smalls and of course, Jamie Bochert.

It takes a real talent to put together a collection of such costume-inspired pieces and have it be wearable, but Jack and Lazaro are that talent and then some. “I really love this collection,” Liu Wen said, “I would wear it all!” We couldn’t agree more Liu; we couldn’t agree more.
