Set on a balcony in Lincoln Center, Rachel Roy displayed her Spring 2012 collection full of impossibly sleek looks, beautifully tailored pants, figure-flattering cocktail dresses, and some of the most lust-worthy shoes we’ve seen all week. Barbora Dvorakova, Jenny Albright, and Simona Andrejic are a few of the more notable names to showcase the collection yesterday, but as is the most case with presentations, many of the girls were new faces to Fashion Week.
Salmon colored shorts, a turquoise sleeveless wrap dress, and an off-white suit may make this sound like an unusually conservative collection for Rachel; but it was quite the contrary as it included a number of netted dresses, androgynous silhouettes, and surprising little details like snakeskin trim on a pair of leather shorts. “Spring 2012 was inspired from the idea that a woman wearing a gentleman’s wardrobe in a feminine way is refined, elegant, and modern – I watched the film The Lover set in 1930s colonial Vietnam and used soft suiting shapes inspired from the film to form my spring collection…the elongated terrace outside felt right to showcase a fluid, effortless collection,” Rachel described.
Always leaving her shows feeling refreshed and optimistic about fashion, we were even more ecstatic when we received this little clip featuring an interview between Rachel and NBA player Amaré Stoudemire discussing the concept of their collaboration Amaré & Rachel Rachel Roy. An unexpected duo but destined for incredible results.
