Inspired by ancient Egypt and the texture of deserts, Rachel Roy’s presentation at Cedar Lake this afternoon was one of her strongest yet. Rachel produced beautifully constructed clothes in luscious fabrics like textured velvet, tulle, lace and fur and completed each of her looks with silver heels from her collaboration with Manolo Blahnik.
And with a guest list that included Selita Ebanks and Veronica Webb, we’re sure to see the Rachel Roy designs out and about at fashion events very shortly.
Models Anais and Nathalie seemed just as wowed as we were by the beauty of the entire collection. “I really love my makeup,” said Nathalie, a newcomer to New York Fashion Week who was on her third show of the day. “It’s very different.” Makeup artist Wendy Rowe created a modern Egyptian look by using an extremely exaggerated smoky eye with bits of turquoise and green peeking out at the corners.
Lead hairstylist Andre Rodman for Frédéric Fekkai imitated the look of “Cleopatra and her iconic stick-straight bob,” while also adding his own contemporary touch. Using a variety of Frédéric Fekkai products, he eliminated the center part by pulling a section of the hair back and then added volume by securing a small hidden ponytail at the nape of the neck.
To get this look, Andre recommends beginning with a mixture of Fekkai Silky Straight Ironless Smooth Finish Serum and Fekkai Coiff Contrôle Ironless Straightening Balm. After applying the combination to the entire head, blow-dry the hair straight using a large round brush, sweeping the hair back to get rid of any part in the hair. Once the hair is dry, pull back a piece under each ear to create a small ponytail that hides at the base of the hairline, finishing the look with Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray. ~ Sonia Evers
