Iconic ’60s model turned model agent Ellen Harth passed away on Sunday of cancer. She was 71.

Ellen began her career as a model, embodying the mod look of the times, complete with those big doe eyes. Designers including Rudi Gernreich and Geoffrey Beene fell in love with her spirit. “She had the original Sassoon hair and very black eyes and long fingernails, and Rudi adored her,” said Ellen’s friend Barbara Flood. “People will remember her black short hair, the dark eyes, and that incredible German accent.”

And she never left the modeling world as Ellen began her very own agency called Ellen Harth Models, which was fused with Elite Models in 1983. Over the years, she worked with supermodels like Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, and Cindy Crawford. Ellen has been credited for her work bringing runway models to print and vice versa.

“She was a strong person and always a great beauty,” said Peggy Moffitt of her fellow model. “She photographed like a dream. She sure was memorable and a very dear sweet person.”
