Kim Dawson, former model and industry icon passed away on Thursday, March 25th in Dallas due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 85.

During her career as a model in the 1940s, she walked the runways in New York and Paris, but then transitioned into teaching at New York’s Barbizon School of Modeling. In 1960, she founded Fashion Features, and then later the Kim Dawson agency. Through the years, she discovered models including Jerry Hall, while Erin Wasson and Ali Michael are two examples of the models that Kim found through the Kim Dawson/Fashion!Dallas Model Search.

“People think of a model or a supermodel as something happening in New York,” said Ken Downing, senior vice president and fashion director for Neiman Marcus. “Kim realized that there was not only talent in Texas but in the surrounding areas. She found it and developed it. Just look at the careers of Chandra North or Erin Wasson, who’s been on the cover of every major fashion magazine.”
