Runway Recap: Crop Tops Prevail at Paris Fashion Week!

It was all about the ’90s at today’s Balmain show, as the beloved decade was used as a clear reference point in Olivier Rousteing’s spring collection.  With their oversized gold hoop earrings in tact, top models Aymeline Valade, Kasia Struss, Anja Rubik, and Liu Wen took to the runway in a series of voluminous power suits, keeping the focus on the exaggerated shoulders and boxy silhouettes.  Tapered high-waist trousers added to the ’90s feel, while yellow and black stripes and head-to-toe diamond prints commanded the audiences’ attention.  Aside from those offerings, the brand also presented a good helping of crop tops and micro minis, which were paired with sharp jackets, or done in all out denim— a true ’90s staple!

Front row attendee, Kristen Stewart, may have had crowds buzzing prior to the Balenciaga show, but once the lights dimmed, all eyes were on the clothes!  Familiar runway faces Saskia de Brauw, Liya Kebede, ulia Nobis, and Marie Piovesen joined show opener Kristin Kragh Liljegren on the runway this season.  The top model cast stunned in an assortment of skirts and pants paired with boxy crop tops— the hottest trend on the Paris runways! The collection was centered around creating strong shoulders, and adding sculptural ruffles, peplums, and hi-low hemlines for drama.  The collection’s sharp lines paired well with the interesting barbed wire motifs that adorned several of the closing looks, making for one strong spring lineup!
