Runway Recap: Raf Simons Debuts His First RTW Collection for Dior!

The reports are in and, just as we expected, the Twittersphere is buzzing with the latest updates and premiere images from  today’s highly anticipated Christian Dior Spring 2013 show!  Although Raf Simons has already managed to win over fashion’s leading tastemakers with his first couture collection, all eyes were on the Dior runway this morning, eagerly awaiting the first glorious model to step out onto the runway.  And, just who was that first lovely lady chosen to model Raf’s debut ready-to-wear creations?  Why, none other than one of Modelinia’s favorite top models, Daria Strokous!  The repeat runway star took to the all-white catwalk in a razor-sharp fitted tuxedo jacket and slim cut cigarette pants with  pointed black shoes, and a very Parisian looking silk necktie. Joining Daria were top models Lindsey Wixson, Julia Nobis, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Kinga Rajzak, and Marianne Deleeuw, who took turns strutting down the catwalk in bright orange and mint green painted eyelids and slicked back hair dos.

From there, the collection moved into an assortment of longer tuxedo jackets that were left sleeveless, or just long enough to be worn alone as a chic dress.  Meanwhile, miniature pink and periwinkle blue metallic ball gowns were worn over black shorts to create a slightly more casual evening look compared to the designer’s voluminous couture offerings.  That’s not to say however, that full-length ball gowns didn’t have a moment on Raf’’s runway.  Towards the end of the show, floor-grazing, voluminous skirts done in silk floral prints were paired with scoop neck tops and flat metal sandals— looks that revealed just enough of the designer’s minimal Jil Sander days, while remaining true to the brand’s storied French heritage.

Clearly, the “new Dior woman” hasn’t lost an ounce of her feminine grace and sophisticated beauty. J’adore!
