Runway Report: An Evolution of Styles at Oscar de la Renta

It was ladylike chic tonight at Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2013 fashion show!  With demure accessories ranging from high leather gloves to oversized hoods, this collection is certainly for the elegant woman.  In what was an incredible variety of styles from the 1950s to gothic glam, Oscar was holding nothing back!  And of course, it wouldn’t be a true Oscar de la Renta affair, without some show stopping gowns.

The collection began with finely tailored pieces with a heavy emphasis on pencil skirts below the knee and sky high oversized cloche hats.  The hair was sleekly blown straight and the lips a light orange.  A standout piece was a short sleeved red printed dress that was paired with long black leather gloves.  Almost suddenly, the collection shifted completely as a model transended the runway in a fantastic cape with an oversized hood.  The hair and makeup too changed to wavy hair and nude lips.  Models like Jacquelyn Jablonski represented the section of mostly leathers and cloaks.  Then it was back to a more refined style as if nothing had happened!  Models like Cara Delevingne, Bette Franke and Lindsey Wixson sported hair in a low bun, red lipstick and a combination of styles in lime green and teal with a-line skirts, fur stoles, embroidered fabrics and of course, some Oscar lacing.

The style shifts once again back to the cloche hats and into a section of mostly black pieces like a stunning cropped pant suit, open blazer and a tiered chiffon strapless gown (whose black cloche hat donned a black veil!)  Then it was time for the gowns!  A gorgeous black and nude beaded number got it started down the runway.  Models like Jessica Stam and Karlie Kloss (who closed the show) in a brown smokey eye, breathed life into some stunning jewel-tone gowns in red, lime green, teal, purple and a delicious shocking pink.  It was a whirlwind of styles, there’s no doubt about it, but what an adventure!  Oscar de la Renta continues to be one of the most creative minds in fashion and if it’s up to us, he won’t be going anywhere!
