The scene was electrifying at the Altuzarra show Saturday night.  With A-list celebs including Jessica Chastain, Kate Bosworth and NBA star Tyson Chandler sitting front row, the atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation for the first look at Joseph Altuzarra’s work.  As the lights dimmed on the zig-zagging runway (don’t worry, the girls handled it like seasoned pros) and the whimsical ballerina style music came on, the crowd hushed as the first captivating look hit the stage.  The CFDA Swarovski award winner made a name for himself last season with his brilliantly tailored outerwear, so it made perfect sense to follow up those top rated pieces with styles better suited for spring. Sharp blazers in pinstripes with gold hardware details were given openings so that they could be worn like capes, paired with sexy knee-high gladiator sandals. Meanwhile, for evening, the skilled designer took on an almost otherworldly approach to dressing, presenting pieces that were fit for a Moroccan princess. The bejeweled, lavishly embroidered wrap dresses created a delicate sense of volume around the neck.  With the addition of gold fringe and Swarovski elements, the couture-style collection was like a work of art.

Of course, the model lineup only added to the dazzling effect the clothes had on the runway.  Marie Piovesan, Caroline Brasch Nielsen, Lindsey Wixson, Karmen Pedaru, Katlin Aas, Fei Fei Sun, Shu Pei Qin, Jac, Joan Smalls and Nadja Bender, were the standouts among the beautiful cast.  Backstage, we took notes as the MAC beauty team applied dark blue liner to the girl’s lids, and left lips a natural shade of soft pink. Props to the masters at Fekkai as well! The hair professionals created very polished Parisian-style knots at the nape of the neck that had the girls backstage snapping pics for some future inspiration.  It’s hard to imagine how Joseph Altuzarra will top himself next season, but we’re not putting anything past this style master!
