It’s near impossible to think of sleek American sportswear and not think of Michael Kors in the process. The designer has become synonymous with modern American luxury and today he proved to be the master with a sleek, energetic Fall collection that was made for New Yorkers on the go! With famous faces Karolina Kurkova, Zoe Saldana and Hilary Swank sitting front row, the former Project Runway judge sent out a plenitude of rich furs paired with expertly tailored separates offered in a wide range of ultra-luxe fabrics. Unlike the moody, somber fur pieces we have seen on the New York runways thus far, Kors gave his a touch of “urban athleticism” with blown up camo and houndstooth prints shown in cobalt, black and army green. Electric orange and “taxicab yellow” also added a jolt of youthful energy to sleek black cashmere knits, structured pea coats and zip-up pencil skirts. When paired with oversized tinted visors, fitted techno-seamed tops and silver quilted leather jackets were reflective of the designer’s downtown appeal and uptown polish.
For the closing evening looks, Kors’ played for proportions, adding hi-low taffeta skirts to fitted black bodices or in the case of Karlie Kloss, a gleaming jewel-encrusted mini. Joining the leggy beauty on the catwalk this season were top models Cara Delevingne, Daria Strokous, Bette Franke, Sui He, Sigrid Agren, Fresh Face pick Asia Piwka and Hanne Gaby Odiele among others. And in case there was any mistake about Kors’ vision for the production, the designer offered some inspirational side notes to the cast backstage, posting on a large poster ahead of the runway, “You are fast-paced, athletic and chic!” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves Mr. Kors— well done!
