Just last week, the world was introduced to female model Casey Legler, who made headlines when she followed in Andrej Pejic’s gender-bending footsteps and signed to Ford Models as a male model. Now, to coincide with all of the talk about pushing gender boundaries, Saint Laurent Paris has released its first menswear campaign starring none other than Dutch beauty Saskia de Brauw!
Keeping in line with the French label’s history of androgynous style, Hedi Slimane has tapped the runway regular to model his debut Spring 2013 men’s collection, a far cry from the model’s most recent Chanel campaign. Shot by the designer himself, the Homme campaign sees Saskia in a host of slim-cut jackets, tailored pants and skinny black ties, which pair well with the model’s boyish crop and strong features.
But this isn’t Saskia’s first stint as a menswear model. Just a few months prior, the androgynous beauty was spotted on the runway walking in Givenchy’s spring/summer 2013 menswear show, making her the perfect fit for the luxury brand’s buzzed about campaign.
Neither is this Slimane’s first attempt at unisex style, as the designer was first made famous by the skinny silhouettes common of his work at Dior Homme. In fact, so beloved were those gender-neutral collections that they were bought by both men and women.
Although we doubt that Saskia will become a mainstay on the men’s runway, we do expect those skinny trousers and tailored sports coats to fly off the shelves this season!
