With Christmas just days away, we’re sure we’re not the only ones who still have gifts we need to buy for our loved ones. As we make our last-minute shopping trips, we realize that it’s at this time of the year that the spirit of giving really moves us. Seeing people on the street struggling to find food or money—well, we can’t help but dig into our pocket to help someone else less fortunate than ourselves.
Selita Ebanks feels the same way. Ask the model for gift advice and she’ll tell you to make a donation to UNICEF. Your contribution will aide women and children in Africa, helping to prevent malaria, HIV, reproductive and nutritional conditions, cardiovascular and chronic respiratory diseases, as well as help lower childbirth mortality rates. Great progress has been made in these areas ever since UNICEF started championing this cause, but every little bit counts.
“I truly believe that when you give you are blessed. Everyday we should practice giving,” says Selita. “Whether it’s our neighbor who lost his job and may lose his home…offer him a hand, a meal, a smile. When we are down we must pick ourselves up, but sometimes we get hit harder than we would like and getting back up requires someone else’s help.”
So do something selfless this season and help someone in need to make Selita—and yourself—proud. ~ Jessica Mahler
