For designer John Patrick’s presentation of his 1920s-inspired collection for Organic, Shalom, donning a bow tie, striped shirt, and blazer, stood alone against the wooden bar while a roster of models, including Ubah Hassan, sat at tables and stretched out looking purposefully languished across an elevated dining area.
“It’s kind of odd that I’m standing up here by myself and all the other girls are mingling,” said the veteran model. So what are some of Shalom’s secrets for a long career in modeling? Organic food, of course! “My parents were hippies, so I grew up eating lots of organic foods,” she said. She also credits “naps and long, long swims.”
