Blonde bombshell Christie Brinkley has us wishing we were getting away from it all! February 5th, 1979 marks the first of three consecutive Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition covers starring Christie, which was the first time that had ever happened! Shot in the Seychelles by legendary photographer Walter Iooss, Christie’s smile and elegance is perfectly captured. Sporting an array of sexy one-pieces and bikinis, it’s no surprise that they chose the low cut bedazzled suit for the cover. Then again, anything would have looked fantastic with Christie’s long blonde locks!
Over the next two decades, Christie’s modeling career blossomed. Soon after her cover, Christie appeared in the first Sports Illustrated Calendar. She played her first movie role in National Lampoon’s Vacation, maintained a record 20-year deal with CoverGirl and received many awards and accolades for charity work. We can’t help but love Christie’s beginning, where “Getting Away From It All” sounds SO good!
