The title says it all! Some of the biggest supermodels come from Brazil like Gisele Bündchen, Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima. On January 16th, 1978, Brazilian model, Maria Joao, graced the cover of Sports Illustrated. The brunette beauty donned sexy red one-pieces on the sand in Bahia, Brazil shot by famed photographer Walter Iooss.
Joao’s issue is the most complained about in Sports Illustrated history, mainly because it featured practically nude shots of Cheryl Tiegs. The issue received the most cancellations of any issue in history! Maria Joao has not had a big career in modeling since her cover. It’s actually her daughter, “The Fast and the Furious” actress, Jordana Brewster, who found more fame.
