Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue Countrdown: City Life on the Water

Sheila Roscoe was called for a one-day swimwear modeling gig in 1972. She was a flight attendant living in Los Angeles, so that commute over to the job at Marina del Ray was a quick one.

A few years prior, a passenger on one of her TWA flights introduced her to a scout at the Nina Blanchard Agency and Nina recommended her to the SI swimsuit issue editor Jule Campbell. The shoot was set up to highlight urban waterfront areas and Jule ultimately chose the shot of Sheila leaning against the bow of the boat in the California fishing community.

After the issue was released, Sheila quit her job with the airline and became a full time model until leaving the industry to open a bakery with friends in Corona del Mar. Just like in the shot, she was always drawn to the sea.
