Stylist Tips! Miranda Kerr's Stylist Shows Us How to Spring Clean Our Wardrobe

From the sidewalk to the red carpet, it’s no news that we loveĀ Miranda Kerr’s effortless style; in fact there isn’t an outfit she’s worn that we wouldn’t wear ourselves. While some of those looks are all of Miranda’s making, she also takes the advice from stylist Angelica Nelson. As we start to clean out our closets for spring, we asked Angelica for some tips on what to throw out, what to hold onto, and what we should be adding to our spring/summer wardrobes.

MODELINIA: What are some essential rules to keep in mind when doing a Spring closet cleaning?

Anjelica: Always throw out items you continually hesitate on wearing or are not comfortable in when worn! If you notice a natural resistance to a certain piece there is usually a reason.

MODELINIA: Is there anything you should never throw out?

Angelica: Never throw out items that are classics, essential basics, great fabric, vintage, and good designer brands.

MODELINIA: Are there any current colors or trends we should make sure to hold onto?

Angelica: Timeless pieces and neutral/basic colors should never be thrown out. Regardless of what year it is and what is trendy at the moment, these items always sustain the times.

MODELINIA: Is it really true that if you haven’t worn something in over a year you should throw it away?

Angelica: I don’t believe in the if you haven’t worn something in a year throw it away rule! A classic and timeless item is very apparent! And if it falls into the staple classic piece, you can certainly keep it, even if it has not been worn in over a year.

MODELINIA: Phew! So, since we’re obviously making some room, what are some pieces we should absolutely add to our closets this season?

Angelica: Comfortable lightweight dresses in floral, bright prints and silk cotton or linen shirt dresses are always good to have. I’m a fan of basic jersey maxi dresses tied at the waist with a woven or leather wrap belt. I love denim on denim or a mariner stripe shirt and denim (I love stripes!) - so french! Pair that with leather flat sandals, clogs, or classic sneakers such as Vans. And since the AC will be pumping it’s always good to have a lightweight summer sweater or jacket to toss on when inside.

For accessories, wide-brimmed straw hats and colorful sunglasses are perfect for the summer. And the one thing I feel is often overlooked for “wardrobe must-haves” is jewelry. Here are a few great designers for some summer freshness!
