Swap Your Vintage!

On Tuesday July 28th, I hosted the first vintage swap party at What Goes Around Comes Around. As it turned out, it was a great idea!

At the store in New York City, vintage lovers gathered to swap the pieces their closets could really do without to hopefully find something amazing.

Genevieve Jones (always known for her always extravagant outfits), stylish Fabiola Beracasa, and I hosted the party. The three of us were involved because we believe vintage is the original green, and swapping things you don’t like anymore isn’t just helping your closet and your wallet, but it’s also good for the environment!

So how did the party work? You brought your clothes and got a ticket for each piece with a letter on it: A, B, or C. A’s were the best pieces, C’s the least. Then you picked something out of the category you have on your ticket. So if you brought something amazing, you got to pick something amazing!

I brought my lovely Prada heels—the shoes I had to have, even though they were two sizes too small. Of course I never wore them. I also brought a Stærk skirt that was just a little too much design for me. Both found new happy owners. And me? I found a great YSL jacket from the A section and a cute dress from the C section. I got new stuff without paying! How great is that?!

The owners of the store enjoyed the crowd searching for clothes around them. I heard they’re opening a temporary store in Japan soon, since the Japanese love the mix and match of clothes that this great store has to offer. If you’re ever in Soho, go in and see for yourself. The store alone is beautiful.

Hopefully we are going to do a new swap party soon! I am already going through my closet to see what I can bring next time. The search in itself is so exciting! ~ Lonneke Engel
