The day of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is like Christmas morning to us; we wake up at dawn, get ready as fast as we can, and scurry over to the Lexington Avenue Armory where the event is held each year.
After spending a busy morning backstage with this year’s models including Karlie Kloss, Adriana Lima, Lily Donaldson, and Doutzen Kroes, we made our way to the front of the house. Upon entering, guests including Orlando Bloom and Donna Karan, were greeted with a silver, sparkling runway protruding from a multi-arched backdrop with Victoria’s Secret written at the top.
As the lights dimmed, ballerinas clad in red tutus and pointe shoes flitted their way down the runway before breaking into a choreographed dance. The audience, heavily anticipating the first Angel entrance, cheered as the music changed and Candice Swanepoel took her entrance in a purple tutu and wings to match. The “Ballet” section of the show continued with an adorable Lily Aldridge wearing butterfly wings, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Miranda Kerr who closed in a red and white feathered outfit complete with a tiara.
As Miranda took her final steps off the runway, Kanye West stepped on to perform “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” for the “Super Angels” portion of the show. Adriana Lima made a grand opening entrance wearing a superhero cape and thigh high boots while interacting with the audience turning the entire room into a full-blown concert. She was then followed by Behati Prinsloo, Anja Rubik, Erin Heatherton and many others in comic-inspired ensembles.
As models changed into their next outfits for the “Passion” section, Kanye brought out this year’s surprise guest artist Jay-Z who was cheered on by Beyonce dancing in the front row. Alessandra opened “Passion” in this year’s heaviest wings made up of 23-karat gold. But Victoria’s Secret first timer Bregje Heinen wore our favorite look made up of a crystal corset that looked like something Cleopatra would have worn.
Miranda opened the next section, “Angels Aquatic”, in the $2.5 Million Dollar Fantasy Bra as Maroon 5 sang “Move Like Jagger”. Constance Jablonski soon followed dressed like a mermaid princess but it was Anne Vyalitsyna who stole the segment when she walked down the runway holding hands with her boyfriend/Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine. Just as she stopped at the end of the catwalk, Adam gave her a big smooch on the cheek which was easily the most romantic part of the show.
We practically jumped out of our seats with excitement when Doutzen Kroes opened the “I Put A Spell On You” section in a show stopping corset with purple fabric billowing behind her. Looking better than ever, we can hardly believe she gave birth to a baby boy earlier this year! Izabel Goulart also wore an incredible outfit with parasols twirling behind her as she came down the runway.
“Club Pink” was the final portion of the lingerie show which kicked off with Nicki Minaj, a bevy of dancers, and a smiling Erin Heatherton on the catwalk. Chanel Iman wore the neon wings and bra we saw at her fitting and a very excited Karlie Kloss closed the entire show with a disco ball dress.
For the finale, all the Angels came dancing down the runway, blowing kisses at the audience and were later joined by Kanye, Nicki Minaj and Maroon 5. Even with the small amount of time the girls had to change for the After Party, none of them wanted to leave the stage, proving that this show is yet again, the highlight of their (and our) year.
