The 2012 Pirelli Calendar is Finally Here!

The 2012 Pirelli calendar launches today complete with 25 beautiful photographs that are unlike any previous images in past calendars. This year’s photographer, Mario Sorrenti, took his 12 muses including Lara Stone, Kate Moss, Isabeli Fontana, Joan Smalls, Saskia de Brauw and Natasha Poly to Corsica where he create the theme of this year’s calendar: ’swoon’: ecstasy captured by images. “The inspiration was to try and capture natural beauty in nature,” Mario said in the Pirelli video at a press conference earlier today. He didn’t want the photos to look sexy or anything like the fashion photos he’s so well-known for; instead he wanted his images to portray the relationship he shares with his subjects, “respecting their beauty, their nature, and [the relationship's] integral presence in the universe.” Indeed, Mario has an ongoing relationship with all 12 of his muses, choosing only the models he’s worked with in the past, including Kate Moss who he dated many years back. “[Mario] adores women. He really loves the female form and everything about it,” Kate revealed in the video which took us through the photo shoots he shared with each muse.

Following what Lagerfeld did with the calendar last year, Mario made the calendar interactive so no model was ever attached to a specific month. “Originally, I wanted it just to be 12 pictures and I didn’t really care what girl was for what month,” Mario told Glenn O’Brien, “We asked ourselves how do we make an object that is at once a calendar and a portfolio. And the creative director came up with a solution, the interactive idea,” which allows the owner to decide which picture to put with which month.

The full cast of muses is listed below, and while the complete set of photos has yet to hit the webosphere, these three photos of Kate, Natasha, and Saskia will certainly suffice for now!
