Tuesday night at Milk Gallery the CFDA hosted “The Beauty of Health: Resizing the Sample Size,” a panel discussion aimed at addressing the well-being of models—one of fashion’s most significant and sensitive issues. Special guests and panel hosts included DNA Models founder David Bonnouvrier, Tonne Goodman, Aerin Lauder, Zac Posen, casting director James Scully, and Doutzen Kroes, who charmed with sincerity and candor when sharing her experiences. “I eat and I am happy,” the model revealed. “I want a healthy lifestyle, and I hope other models can have choices like that.”
After the panel answered thought-provoking questions posed by Dr. David Herzog, the discussion was opened to a vocal audience of editors, models, designers, stylists, journalists, and other industry insiders. Even Coco Rocha raised her hand to ask how she could play her part, admitting, “It took a while to grow the confidence to say, ‘This is who I am, take it or leave it.’”
The evening ended optimistically with the understanding that positive advancements have been made and will continue to be made, reaffirming the integrity of the global fashion community and the CFDA Health Initiative—guidelines geared toward improving the lives of models through awareness, education, and the notion that a healthy mind is a healthy body. ~ Tim Mitchell
