It was a night of champagne, fashion’s biggest names and more makeup then you could ever dream of at the opening of the first west coast NARS store in LA last Saturday. The chic boutique is a girl’s dream come true with elegant vanities, white hydrangeas and even a private room in the back, complete with a fireplace (making for our new rainy day activity must). Makeup legend, François Nars, chatted with guests Rachel Zoe, Mandy Moore, Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy, West Coast Editor of Vogue’s Lisa Love, Who What Wear’s Hillary Kerr & Katherine Power and graciously shared with us everything from his beauty muse to the number one makeup item he thinks every girl should have. And of course, when Alessandra Ambrosio arrived, it became THE beauty event of the season!
We caught up with François Nars, who has worked on iconic faces like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Amber Valletta. His current muse is the late actress and fashion model, Edie Sedgwick so it’s no surprise that his new collection of makeup features everything Andy with Warholian printed palettes that feature some of the artist’s most famous quotes and packaging that is adorned with pops of bright lips and blooming flowers, down to a large lit photograph of Edie that hangs high on the new boutique’s wall. François compliments Edie’s ”beauty and fragility,” but also finds inspiration in all of the people that Andy Warhol photographed. The pairing of the two is nothing short of perfection as what Andy Warhol is to silkscreen, François Nars is to makeup. The master of makeup even shared the one beauty item he thinks every girl should have: The Multiple Stick. François names the multi-purpose stick for eyes, cheeks, lips and body, as the “ultimate accessory.” And with the holidays right around the corner, this will be a must have for any party look.
With the gorgeous new store, dazzling guests and ever stunning collections of makeup, one thing is for sure: François Nars is on top and he is here to stay! Be sure to check out the new location when you’re on the West Coast: 8412 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. In honor of the opening, check out a slideshow of our favorite models who have worked with him:
