The Perks of Trade

Lauren Hanawalt, our model blogger, is back!

I have to admit, there are quite a few perks of being a model. It’s not quite as glamorous as most think, but I definitely grab the chance at reaping the benefits whenever I can. Having been in love with fashion ever since I was five, trade can be one of the best perks to being a model. Sure, most of the time you receive a party dress that is just not your style, or you get the “this is last season’s item that just did not sell” as a consolation for your long day, but there have been some jobs where I have received amazing stuff. One time, I received a five thousand dollar gift certificate for doing a designer’s presentation, another, I got over ten pairs of Siwy denim (one of Kate Moss’s favorites). However, the trade I adored the most has to be from Sara Shepherd, when I shot for the look book a couple seasons back. I got an AMAZING leather jacket with great detail that I wear everyday (as seen in the picture), an interesting camel colored shrug that always receives compliments, and a great pencil skirt that will never go out of style. Sara Shepherd … a great San Francisco designer that I would have never discovered without doing this job. Don’t miss out!
