The Return of the Original Supermodel

Harper’s Bazaar UK’s December 2011 cover featuring Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, and Yasmin Le Bon opened our eyes to the return of the original supermodels. For the past few months, the world’s first supermodels have been popping up all over the fashion world. Back in November, Angela Lindvall covered the editorial pages of both V Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar Spain, in December Cindy Crawford graced the cover of LoveCat Magazine as well as Harper’s Bazaar Mexico and UK, and Naomi Campbell is back in the campaign world starring in both Roberto Cavalli and Pinko’s Spring 2012 print ads.

With all these recent features, we had an inkling that the return of the original supermodel to the fashion world was on the horizon, but it really became official when Amber Valletta graced the editorial pages of this month’s US Vogue, since nothing is really definite until it has Anna Wintour’s stamp of approval.

As young and new faces takeover the runways each season, it seems that the women who created and define the word supermodel will be taking over the glossies again, proving that age ain’t nothin’ but a number and that it really is possible to look fabulous at every age.
