The Top Five: Beauty Trends at NYFW SS 2013

It’s sad, but it’s true: the Spring/Summer shows at NYFW 2013 have ended!  Even though it is behind us, it’s now time to reflect on everything that was presented.  In terms of beauty, we saw a lot of bold trends this season as well as some subtle ones, from bright and neutral colors to crazy and classic hair styles.  With so many new beauty trends to try out this Spring, we can’t pick which one to try first!  From lips to eyes take a look of our Top Five!

1.) Edie Eyes:  Marc Jacobs’ sent his models down the runway with platinum bobs, heavy brows and a heavy arch of shadow over the eyelids a la Edie Sedgwick.  Not to be outdone, Michael Kors’ models also sported a heavy arch in electric blue.  It seems that 60s mod makeup is making a comeback!

2.) Lips Au Natural: There were some bright lip colors on the runways this season like Jason Wu’s apple red (pictured) and J Crew and Mara Hoffman’s coral, but many of the designers opted for no color.  From Alexander Wang to Rodarte, models’ lips were colorless.  Looks like it time to put away the lipstick come Spring!

3.) You’ve Got Nail: We spotted some VERY cool nails this season.  From Prabal Gurung’s “blood nails” (pictured) to Rodarte’s complex woven tips, there was nothing boring about the models’ hands.  In fact, this seemed to be THE beauty trend when it came to risk taking.  So opt out of the usual reds and pinks this Spring and try something crazy!

4.) Head Trip: Wild and crazy color hair trends were all over the catwalks!  There were a rainbow of colorful hair accessories from turbans at Marc by Marc Jacobs (pictured on Lindsey Wixson) to colorful bangs and clip-on feathers at Libertine.  Models Joan Smalls and Cara Delevingne sported hot pink and yellow streaks in their hair at Oscar de la Renta and Karlie Kloss even worked a bright blue wig at Anna Sui.

5.) Big Hair: There were a few hair trends this season that cannot be missed!  Complex braids were everywhere  from The Row and Jason Wu’s twisted up-dos to Holmes & Wang’s faux hawk side braids.  High-ponys also made a big comeback at J Crew and Alexander Wang (pictured).  Middle parts were big at Victoria Beckham, Thakoon and Zac Posen and slicked back hair also became big trends this season at shows like Carolina Herrera and Rodarte.  Could you even ask for more styles to choose from?
