The Topshop festivities culminated Thursday night, with a huge celebration at Simon Hammerstein’s downtown club, The Box, drawing in editors like Aya Kanai and Hamish Bowles (who was dancing around, dressed up in a checked suit) as well as celebrities like J.Lo, Kevin Spacey, (who entertained the crowd late night with a musical rendition of “I’m a Gigolo”) James Blunt, and Zach Braff who danced on couches. In a booth to the side, Blake Lively and Penn Badgley sat together, entertained by the magicians who were playing card tricks with guests. Everything and everyone was Topshop obsessed, and the performers even changed the lyrics of ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man” to “Everyone’s crazy about a Topshop man.”
Kate Moss made her entrance early in the evening, with Sir Philip Green right by her side, posed for pictures by the bar, but quickly captured the sofa section at the front of the stage. Before the performances, she danced with friends, but as soon as Adele took the stage, she positioned herself next to J.Lo and the two chatted through the night. Despite her desire to go shopping, Hilary Rhoda, in Rachel Roy, had the right game plan, “I’m going to wait a week and probably all the best things will be gone, but the lines are just insane.”
Sir Philip, always a man of the people, hung out with his wife by the bar, chatted with friends in the center of the party and moved back and forth between Kate’s spot on the couch and the rest of the party. Joking, he said, “Retailers asked if I was nervous and I said I walked around New York and I haven’t seen a lot I people naked.” He took to the stage and thanked everyone, saying, “Even for Kate Moss who’s seen a million flash bulbs, that was one of the most sensational openings. I want to thank all the American people who waited for hours to shop and I apologize they had to wait.”
But along with the end of the Topshop parties came the end of the Kate Moss moment in New York, as she and Chloe Green hopped on a plane that night to head back to England.
