We can’t tell you how many times we’ve thought, This screams Vanity Fair portrait! When it happens to us, the result usually involves makeshift gowns and shameless posing, but when it happens to great photographers like Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, something magical happens.
At a ’70s and ’80s fashion reunion hosted by hairstylist Harry King, the photographer spotted a special group of women and had the epiphany. A phone call to Vanity Fair and 10 supermodels later, Timothy had his shot. The portrait features Christie Brinkley, Cheryl Tiegs, Beverly Johnson, Carol Alt, Dayle Haddon, Esme, Karen Bjornson, Kim Alexis, Lisa Taylor, and Nancy Donahue—some of the biggest names of their era.
The photo, which features the models leaning on ladders à la Irving Penn, will be out in the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair. Until the glossy hits newsstands, though, you can stop by Timothy’s current show at the Steven Kasher Gallery through February 27th to see the solo photographs he took of the supers while trying to capture the ultimate group shot. Check them out, and add “inspiration” to the list of reasons to never miss a good party. ~ Tim Mitchell
