Barneys New York decided it wasn’t enough for Iman to simply receive the Fashion Icon Award from the CFDA Fashion Awards. They’ve gone one step further in honoring her, and decided to dedicate their windows to the supermodel. The always entertaining and hilarious creative director, Simon Doonan, will design two whole windows on Madison Avenue, focusing on the life and beauty of Iman.
One window will feature quotes from her close friends, including RuPaul, (“Iman is the woman who first inspired the phrase ‘You Betta Work’”) Diana Vreeland, (“Now that’s a neck!”) and David Bowie (“Iman is my wife!”) while the other will host a mix of memorable shots of Iman. Knowing Simon’s creativity, the windows are sure to be masterful pieces of art.
For three weeks, beginning on May 11, passersby will have the opportunity to check out the Iman inspired windows. But this isn’t the first time she’s been featured behind a department store’s window pane. Before the 2009 Costume Institute Gala, a shot of Iman from Vogue was on display.
