Daul Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, on May 31, 1989. She began modeling in 2006, appearing in several editorials for Vogue Korea before debuting on the runway for Chanel, Dries Van Noten, and Maison Martin Margiela in March 2007.
Since then Daul has captured the hearts of many with her quirky, fun personality and personal style—she rocked the blunt-bangs trend even before Kate Moss. In 2007, Daul landed an editorial for i-D in May, walked for Chanel couture, shot a Moschino campaign with Peter Lindbergh, appeared on the cover of Vogue Korea with Coco Rocha, and in an editorial for Chinese Vogue. She walked for Salvatore Ferragamo, Alexander McQueen, and Chanel that fall—in fact, she has walked in every single Chanel show since her March 2007 debut. Blessed by Karl? Not too shabby for the fresh face known to her I Like to Fork Myself blog fans as "Daulmonster."
The trance music lover is dancing her way through the industry. In 2008, popular Japanese magazine Anan named her Model of the Year, she appeared in three editorials for i-D (March, April, and July), and on the covers of May's Vogue Korea and July's Korean Harper's Bazaar. Adding another top photographer to her portfolio, she worked with Steven Meisel for a V Magazine editorial in November.
Daul is even more interesting off the runway, sharing her spunky side with the world in her blog and through her paintings. She recently had her first experience with American sports culture at a Knicks basketball game, an experience she enjoyed, and curiously, likened to a rave. When she's not traveling the world for work and missing her guinea pigs, Tiger and Jamong, Daul works hard to bring environmental awareness and action to the youth of South Korea as the spokesperson for the Korean Federation for Environmental Movement.
