Elettra Wiedemann has a rare combination of qualities, including stunning beauty, intelligence, and grace—all coupled with a commitment to giving back.
On July 26, 1983, Elettra was born in New York to Isabella Rossellini (a former Calvin Klein model) and Jon Wiedemann, a Harvard-educated Microsoft executive. As a young girl Elettra suffered from scoliosis, as had her mother, and had to wear a painful corrective body brace. With tough love from her mom, there was no time to complain. Elettra went on to become a top student at the United Nations International School and received her B.A. in international relations from the New School, all the while doing campaigns for the likes of Abercrombie & Fitch and following in her mother’s footsteps as the face of Lancôme.
In addition to an accomplished modeling career, including posing for the covers of American, French, and Spanish Elle and walking the catwalk for top designers Bill Blass and Diane von Furstenberg, Elettra and her fiance, James Marshall, created a global charity foundation called Just One Frickin Day. Built on her insight that change can literally take "just one frickin day," their vision is to unify and concentrate resources to a small number of special charity projects around the world. Currently, Just One Frickin Day has joined forces with the Solar Electric Light Fund to build a 24-hour solar-powered hospital in Burundi, Africa.
Combining her worlds of fashion and philanthropy, Elettra spearheaded the Earth Pledge's Future Fashion show. She and her partner, Shalom Harlow, inspired designers—including Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and Versace—to create one-of-a-kind pieces with renewable fabrics such as organic cotton and bamboo. A few designers, Derek Lam among them, immediately committed to continue with sustainable design.
While Elettra still has much to contribute to the world of fashion, she recently relocated to London to pursue a master's degree in biomedicine.
