Talk about determination! Not only did Hanne Gaby Odiele fight her way into the modeling world, but she made a huge comeback, too. She debuted strutting down the runway in the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2007 show. Unfortunately in December of 2006, she was crossing the street in New York City when she was hit by a car that ran a red light. But two broken legs and many other broken bones weren't enough to stop Hanne from getting back into the modeling world. Making a full recovery, she returned for the Spring and Fall 2008 shows, walking in over 50 shows, including Chanel, Cynthia Steffe, Derek Lam, Form, Hanuk, Jeremy Laing, Max Azria, and Prada.
Hanne was born in Kortrijk, Belgium, on October 8, 1988, and was discovered at the Nova Rock Festival in Belgium. The blue-eyed, blonde beauty signed with Supreme Management in 2005, shooting editorials for Vogue Italia and British Vogue shortly after, and was also in the Philosphy di Alberta Ferretti and Topshop Fall ad campaigns.
In 2007—only a year after her accident—she was back on the scene, and chosen as the face of Vera Wang's Kohl's Simply Vera line, shot by Paolo Roversi, and even showed off the pieces on Oprah. Hanne also stayed with the affordable designer trend, modeling for Jonathan Saunders when he launched his GO! International line for Target.
Hanne has graced the cover of French Revue de Modes and the pages of British Elle, Vogue Italia, and Numéro Tokyo, as well as the campaigns for Lord & Taylor with Jacquetta Wheeler and Carolyn Murphy, Mulberry with Maryna Linchuk (shot by Steven Meisel), and DNKY jeans. She was even named one of Marie Claire's Top Ten New Faces in March of 2007 and was the face of London Fashion Week September 2008.
Not only does she rock fabulous clothes on the runway, but she has a great personal style too, as she was stopped by the Sartorialist himself. Apparently Scott Schuman had no idea she was a model and genuinely loved her look. And judging by her tastes, it makes perfect sense that she wants to get into styling after her career as a model. Now that's a full recovery!
