Kori Richardson is the latest fashion export from Canada, following in the footsteps of Jessica Stam, Daria Werbowy, and Coco Rocha. Kori was born in 1989 and grew up in Toronto. She was discovered at the mall by a talent scout and debuted in Milan as an exclusive for the Spring 2008 Jil Sander show. She really took off in Paris with bookings for the Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci, Chanel, and Alexander McQueen runway shows.
The list of designers that Kori’s walked for in ready-to-wear is phenomenal by any standard: Alberta Ferretti, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Viktor & Rolf, Chanel, Chloé, Stærk, Christian Dior, Costello Tagliapietra, Zac Posen, Derek Lam, Narciso Rodriguez, Rag & Bone, Elie Saab, Giambattista Valli, Givenchy, Jason Wu, Lanvin, Marni, Jil Sander, Max Azria, Donna Karan, and Vivienne Westwood Red Label, just to name a few. She has also done haute couture for Valentino.
The drowsy-eyed model evokes Greta Garbo in the black-and-white photos for Vogue Italia's September 2008 editorial shot by Paolo Roversi. Kori also made the September cover of Dazed & Confused alongside Anna Gushina, Cato Van Ee, and Pernille. Shot by Will Davidson, Dazed fashion editors Karen Langley and Katie Shillingford styled their favorite new faces wearing Burberry Prorsum, D&G, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, and Miu Miu. "The casting included girls at different stages of the new faces cycle. Last season Kori Richardson climbed to the top and she's set for another successful season. She's already a real pro and required very little direction from Will, Karen, or myself. She just gets it!" said Shillingford.
Further proof of Kori's rising success? Topshop signed Kori along with Jourdan Dunn, Amanda Laine, and Karlie Kloss for its Spring '09 campaign, shot by Max Farago.
According to Kori, her most exciting job so far has been when she "got to shoot at a wildlife sanctuary. I was sitting on top of an elephant all day and got to play with baby lions between shots." And the most outrageous thing she has had to wear was "latex shorts, a scuba suit, a tutu from the national ballet, and a motorcycle helmet—all at once."
