Melissa Tammerijn’s sweet demeanor is widely recognized among the fashion world, but in addition to her loveable personality and her flawless, fair skin, she is, without a doubt, on her way to becoming a model pro. Her European looks (platinum blonde hair, blue eyes and, of course, those cheekbones) are a hit with many prominent fashion designers today.
Anyone would be surprised to hear that this Holland born beauty did not immediately begin modeling after a scout spotted her at 15. She instead attended beauty school to learn about hairdressing and, after talking with her parents, decided to wait until she finished school to pursue modeling. During that time Melissa actually forgot about modeling altogether!
Luckily, four years later Melissa went to a model convention in her hometown, where she realized the industry loved her look. It didn’t take long for Melissa to get her big break walking as an exclusive for Calvin Klein in fall 2010. This immediately started a chain reaction in bookings. Big names like Chanel, Fendi, Burberry, Marni, and Lanvin quickly snatched her for their shows. Melissa rapidly became a face to watch out for during Fashion Week.
A month after a successful season on the runways, Melissa appeared in major glossies like Vogue Italia, Muse, Vogue China, and Dazed & Confused. She’s worked with photographers like Sølve Sundsbø and Richard Burbidge, but still dreams of working with Steven Meisel, and with the rate her career is moving that will be in no time!
Even though Melissa is quickly earning her stripes in the modeling world, she does admit that the business can get a little crazy. This model up-and-comer is having no trouble learning the ropes. The Dutch beauty recently landed her very first cover of Vogue Portugal in March 2011 and walked in spring 2011 haute couture for Alexis Mabille, Chanel, Stephane Rolland and Christian Dior. After experiencing two seasons of ready wear and haute couture, Melissa said in an interview, “It feels amazing to embody such characters, powerful and strong women.”
The industry is fawning over Melissa. From her perfect skin, which she credits to a good night sleep and her love of Dirty Dancing (the movie and the moves!), Melissa is making her presence known in the industry.
