Miranda May Kerr hails from a rural town outside Sydney, Australia, called Gunnedah, where she was born on April 20, 1983. At 13 years old, Miranda, who spent her youth frolicking on her grandmother's farm riding horses and racing motorbikes with her younger brother, won a modeling competition run by Dolly magazine and Impulse Fragrances. She took time to graduate from All Hallows' School, however, before diving into modeling.
Miranda's life changed in 2006. She moved to New York, became the first Australian model to sign with Victoria's Secret as an Angel, inked a lucrative cosmetics contract with Maybelline New York, and appeared in Pharrell Williams and Kanye West's music video for "Number One." In 2007 she did a campaign for Clinique Happy, and became the face of Arden B. She walked in many shows during this two-year span, including Heatherette, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Betsey Johnson, Sass & Bide, Nanette Lepore, Rock & Republic, and Tracy Reese.
In 2008, Miranda began writing a book called Treasure Yourself, filled with tips and information related to nutrition and general well-being. Along with her fellow Victoria's Secret Angels, she made a guest appearance on "How I Met Your Mother," and also secured a spot on Forbes' list of top-earning models of 2008.
Miranda finds her peace practicing Nichiren Buddhism, a Japanese practice that includes chanting, yoga, and meditation. As her father convinced her to give modeling a try, assuring her that modeling could give her a voice to make a difference, she's active with Wildlife Warriors Worldwide and Children International. While she jets around the globe, she typically has her steadfast companion, her tiny Yorkshire terrier Frankie, at her side.
