Many say model good looks are genetic—for Missy Rayder, that is definitely true. She's followed in her older sister Frankie's stilettoed footsteps into the modeling world, earning herself a career spanning 10 years and counting. Born in River Falls, Wisconsin, on June 21, 1978, Missy, who grew up eating McDonald's and cheese-filled hot dogs on a regular basis, visited her sister in New York in 1995 and moved to Tribeca later that same year, where her tastes became a bit more refined (though she's never lost her love of candy). Her runway debut in 1997 for Chloe, Costume National, and Trussardi in Paris and Milan secured her a place on the top catwalks every year since, and she's been a regular for the likes of Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Versace, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Proenza Schouler, Balenciaga, and more. Not just a runway girl, Missy has some impressive editorial work under her patent leather studded belt. Peter Lindbergh photographed her for Italian Vogue's September 1997 issue, and she teamed up with Frankie for the covers of Harper's Bazaar and Arena in 2000. Missy struck fashion gold in September 2002 when, at the request of Steven Meisel, she shaved her head and eyebrows for the Marc Jacobs show in New York. While this may seem an extreme gesture, it was clearly worth it considering what followed. Meisel photographed Missy for five Italian Vogue covers and three additional editorials in the magazine. Missy and Meisel teamed up again and again on campaigns for Prada, Giorgio Armani, Mulberry, and Lanvin. And we can't forget the iconic W editorial "Asexual Revolution" featured in the mag's October 2004 edition. Aside from posing for Meisel, Missy has served as the face for many labels, including John Varvatos, DKNY, Uniqlo, Gap, Bulgari fragrance, Prada, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Celine, Paul & Joe, Louis Vuitton, and H&M. Away from modeling, these days Missy is focused on the best places to eat in Manhattan. In 2007, she took New York magazine on a weeklong food tour of the city, documenting her favorite spots, from Murray's Bagels to City Crab to Bar Pitti—the girl knows how to eat, and she does. Does that make us just a little more jealous of her gorgeous figure? Mais oui!
