Discovered by Women Model Management at an amusement park when she was 17, Selita Ebanks has quickly ascended the ranks of the modeling industry.
A native New Yorker, born February 15, 1983, of Caymanian, Jamaican, Irish, Indian, and African descent, Selita is a reflection of beauty inside and out. Raised as the only girl in a household of seven boys, Selita’s love of athletics was sparked by her brothers; she grew up playing basketball and tennis, and remains a sports fanatic to this day. Her father, a New York City Corrections officer captain, instilled manners, values, and respect in his children, along with a deep commitment to learning. Always a gifted and hardworking student, Selita contemplated attending Columbia, Spelman, and New York University before making the tough decision to pursue modeling and postpone her education.
Selita has graced the covers of Esquire and Hampton Style, was featured in Vanity Fair, and was named one of People magazine’s Most Beautiful People in 2007. This Aquarius also appeared in Sports Illustrated’s illustrious Swimsuit Issue in 2007 and 2008. While Selita has worked with some of the world’s most noted photographers—including Peter Lindbergh, Bruce Weber, Steven Klein, Carter Smith, Russell James, and Mikeal Jansen—and for some of the quintessential American fashion brands—Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie & Fitch, Levi’s, and Tommy Hilfiger—her career aspirations came true when she was chosen to be a Victoria’s Secret “Angel” in 2005. And Selita hasn’t missed a Victoria’s Secret fashion show since!
Beauty isn't merely skin-deep with Selita. She is active in New York and the Cayman Islands as a mentor in the Seamen’s Society of Staten Island, working with local schools, churches, and community groups to provide individual and family counseling, HIV/AIDS education and prevention, leadership-skills training, peer-support groups, and recreation. Selita and her heart of gold initiated a mentoring program in the Cayman Islands called the Stardom Youth Foundation, which provides career guidance for teenagers. After a trip to Sierra Leone with Elle magazine left Selita deeply affected, she established her own charity, the Women’s Coalition for Empowerment and Opportunity (WCEO), to empower the women of Sierra Leone and to foster change.
